State Ed Commissioner Upholds Guilderland High Suspension

Guilderland High School

A ruling to permanently suspend a former Guilderland High School student for making threats against the school has been upheld by Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia.

The parents of the student, referred to only by their initials DB and AB, appealed the expulsion of their, at the time, 15 year old son for emailing a bomb threat and a separate email threat to shoot school officials, saying he did not possess weapons or a bomb.

They also presented testimony from psychologists saying he was a low risk to the school.

Commissioner Elia sided with the school district, saying the boy's actions, including visiting a website that sold firearms, constituted signs of escalating risk.
