There was a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on Tuesday at the new, $52 million Massry Family Children's Emergency Center at Albany Med.
The facility is located next to, but separate from, the main ER, and will provide a setting designed specifically for the needs of children and their families.
It's the only one of its kind in northeast New York and western New England.
Albany Med President Jim Barba says the new center is a fundamental part of the hospital's mission.
Barba says community donations toward construction of the new pediatric ER are approaching their $20 million goal.
