Montgomery County Same Sex Couple Denied Marriage License

Laurel Eriksen

An area town clerk tells a same sex couple to go somewhere else for a marriage license.

The governor calls for an investigation into a Montgomery County clerk, wanting the state Division of Human Rights to see if Laurel Eriksen, the town clerk in Root, violated state law by denying a gay couple a marriage license.

According to reports, Eriksen told the men she couldn't give them the paperwork because they didn't make an appointment, and because of her religious beliefs.

Instead, she suggested the pair talk to the deputy town clerk.

Cuomo calls Eriksen's decision an act of discrimination and offered to officiate the couple's wedding.
