Officer Involved Shooting in Albany

Albany Shooting

A man who police say was apparently armed with a knife was shot by an Albany police detective following a large fight near a school in West Hill on Monday afternoon.

Acting Chief Mike Basile says officers received a call about a fight outside the school on Elk Street around 4:30, and were told one of the suspects might be armed with a gun.

Basile says officers chased the suspect down an alley behind West Hill Middle School.

No gun, however, was found at the scene.

Basile says initial indications are that the detectives took appropriate action in chasing the man.

There‚Äôs no word on the condition of the man shot, and police are not releasing a name at this point.

Police will be using the school's surveillance cameras to reconstruct what happened.
