Senator Chuck Schumer was in Colonie on Monday launching his push to pass a comprehensive federal opioid bill that's aimed at helping first responders deal with people who've overdosed.
The main points include expanding a grant program that enables first responders to give Narcan and other medication to those who have overdosed on heroin or other opioids.
Another provision would authorize a grant program to educate officials on support and care for patients after recovery.
Schumer visited the Colonie Public Safety Building and was joined by local officials and first responders.
