N.Y. Liquor Authority Revokes Liquor License for Capital Region Bar

The State Liquor Authority has suspended the liquor license of a Washington Avenue corporation that runs the, "Varsity Lounge" at 497 Washington Avenue in Albany.

The S.L.A. says they are seeking a permanent suspension of the license.

There have been complaints of underage drinking at the Varsity Lounge.

The S.L.A., Department of Motor Vehicles, and Albany Police recently conducted a compliance inspection.

The morning of the inspection and subsequent investigation revealed that there were 135 people in the bar, under the age of 21.

Investigators say they saw 11 direct liquor sales to minors.

The corporation running the bar is also being cited for exceeding maximum occupancy, employing unlicensed bouncers, and paying employees, "off the books."
