Parents and officials from the Niskayuna School District held a second forum on school safety Monday night.
This follows a recent incident in which a threat from a student led to a 5 1/2 hour lockdown during which time students were not even allowed to use the bathroom.
Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra answered questions along with school principals.
Among other things, he says better social and emotional support can help increase safety.
However, on the question of School Resource Officers, he says they're there to build relationships with students, not just make arrests and be a security guard.
School officials say they've identified the student responsible, and he will face discipline.
