It was a historic day at the State Capitol, as Senate Democratic Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins has been confirmed as Majority Leader.
She's the first woman to lead a majority legislative conference.
She says we can expect action from the chamber on such issues as abortion reform, voting rights, and health care.
Also for the first time, both legislative chambers will be led by African-Americans since Carl Heastie will remain as Assembly speaker.
Gov. Cuomo issued a statement saying Stewart-Cousins has always been a trailblazer, and that people like her are needed to forge the path ahead for the state.
