One year ago, in Cohoes, over two dozen buildings were damaged or destroyed in one of the worst fires the city had ever seen.
But today, Mayor Shawn Morse says Remsen Street is well on its way to recovery.
Amazingly, no one was hurt in the massive fire.
Cohoes resident John Gomes pleaded guilty to arson and is serving a one-year jail sentence.
Asked what he would say to Gomes today, Morse said he would tell him the city forgives him and he hopes Gomes can move on with his life.
Gomes sparked the fire when he was trying to forge a sword in his back yard on a windy day.
The wind caught the flames and everything spread very quickly from there.
