In Troy, about a dozen people gathered outside the Franklin Terrace Ballroom Monday night in support of the controversial sanctuary city measure.
City Council tabled it last week after several hours of public comment, pro and con.
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden was hosting a private fund-raiser inside the ballroom.
Madden has said he can't support the resolution in its current form.
Council President Carmella Mantello says she feels the measure isn't needed and there are other priorities.
The resolution is designed to ensure the city continues its practice of not asking people seeking governmental assistance about their immigration status.
The Troy police union, Rensselaer County Sheriff Pat Russo, and County Executive Steve McLaughlin have all expressed opposition to it.
