Richard Kibbey

With the help of DNA and dental records, the Pentagon has identified the remains of an airman from Delmar who was killed in action in Vietnam.

Richard Kibbey was among four crew members of a rescue and recovery squad shot down during a rescue mission behind enemy lines in North Vietnam.

They were sent in to rescue a downed American pilot.

After getting the pilot, the chopper was hit by enemy ground fire, exploded, and crashed.

Kibbey, the rescued pilot, and two helicopter crew members were killed, one crew member rescued.

Vietnamese officials excavated the crash site and recovered the remains last March.
