Former Schenectady Public Information Officer to Retire

Mark McCracken

A Schenectady police officer, who, at one point, served as the department's public information officer and was a finalist for the chief's job, will retire later this month.

According to the Gazette Officer Mark McCracken's last day will be January 16th.

Back in October, City Council voted to pay out $360,000 to settle an excessive force lawsuit against the city that specifically named McCracken.

The incident involved the alleged use of excessive force in September of 2016 against a woman who was handcuffed at the time.

McCracken isn't commenting on that incident, but tells the Gazette he has "great memories" walking out the door.
