The Aurora Games Come to Albany in August

Aurora Games

Olympic gold medalists Jackie Joyner-Kersee and Nadia Comaneci have been named honorary captains of the inaugural Aurora Games, which will be held at the Times Union Center.

The Games will run August 20-25.

Sports featured include tennis, basketball, figure skating, ice hockey, gymnastics and beach volleyball.

The all-women's sports and entertainment festival will pit the Americas against the World in six different events.

Joyner-Kersee, the captain of Team Americas, says awareness of women's sports continues to grow since her time as an Olympian.

Joyner-Kersee adds the event has the ability to attract young athletes who may be competing in the future.

Aurora Games creator Jerry Solomon says Albany was far from his first choice, but it won him over.

Tickets go on sale March 8th to coincide with International Women's Day.
