Lawmakers Say Recreational Marijuana Might Not Happen This Year

State lawmakers are voicing concerns about pushing through legalization of marijuana in this year's budget.

Assemblyman John McDonald says there are still many unanswered questions.

McDonald adds that his concerns include the possible increase of crime due to marijuana being a cash business, or an increase in impaired driving.

Governor Cuomo has made legalizing marijuana one of his top legislative items for 2019.

He says he is confident it will pass as part of the state budget, which is due April 1st.

McDonald says because of the financial impact, it has to be negotiated as part of the budget, as the impact will not be felt until next year.

Other lawmakers say there is simply not enough time to come up with the regulations necessary to pass the law.
