There's a question in the minds of a lot of people in the nearby town of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
If we have an emergency, who's going to respond?
This, after 12 members of the town's volunteer fire department quit this week when Chief Chuck Cardillo was fired by his fellow selectmen.
Among the issues are that Cardillo was supposedly scammed into buying more than $80,000 in excess supplies.
One of those who walked was Matthew Szwyd, the chief's son-in-law, who says Cardillo didn't deserve to get fired.
An attorney for Cardillo is quoted as saying the move was "totally political."
Szwyd believes the fire department has just eight members now, and he says most of those have full-time jobs elsewhere.
