Authorities are warning people to check ice conditions before walking, snowmobiling, or driving on area lakes.
Warren County Sheriff's Office already has had three instances where cars broke through the ice and gone under on Lake George.
A recovery team also pulled a truck out of Saratoga Lake two weekends ago, people in that truck reportedly had to escape through the windows as the car was plunging deeper into the water.
The ice needs to be about 12 to 15 inches thick for a medium truck to drive on it and about eight to twelve inches for cars and small trucks.
If the ice is two inches or less, it's not safe for anyone or anything to be on it.
