New ID cards for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Standardized Identification cards for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are now available from the state office for People with Developmental Disabilities. The goal of the ID card is to help first responders better understand and interact with those who may not be able to communicate effectively. Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara sponsored the legislation, inspired by his son who has autism. The ID cards are optional, free of charge and can be requested on-line at https://opwdd.ny.gov/iddidcards.
