Ichabod Crane Superintendent Granted Unpaid Leave of Absence

The Ichabod Crane School Board has agreed to a request from Superintendent Michael Vanyo for an unpaid leave of absence.

This comes after Vanyo was arrested last weekend in Saratoga County for drunk driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

A large crowd of parents and students were on hand for a special board meeting Tuesday night.

One parent, Anita Klimate, says they wanted to see the board take some kind of action.

School Board President Matthew Nelson says they're hoping to use this incident as a "teaching moment" for students.

Assistant Suzanne Guntlow will take over as acting superintendent.

Vanyo has served as superintendent of the Columbia County district for a little under two years.
