Threshold to Being Considered Drunk Behind the Wheel Could be Lowered

State lawmakers are debating a bill that could lower the threshold for someone to be considered drunk behind the wheel.

The measure would lower the legal blood alcohol level for driving from .08 to .05.

And it would lower the level required for a more serious Aggravated DWI charge from .18 to .12.

Supporters say the tougher restrictions could reduce crashes and save lives.

But critics say the legislation could hurt the economy.

They argue two glasses of wine with dinner at a restaurant could put someone over the limit.
