Mechanicville Horse Racing Trainer Cited for Withholding OT Pay for Workers

A well-known horse racing trainer will be shelling out more than $1.6 million after being cited for illegally withholding overtime pay for workers.

Chad Brown from Mechanicville, the owner of Chad Brown racing, has agreed to pay the money after admitting that between December 2014 and August 2017, his company filed falsified time sheets and underpaid about 150 groomers and horse walkers at his facilities at the Saratoga Race Course and Belmont Race track downstate in Elmont, Long Island.

Part of the judgement against Brown was based on a Complaint filed by federal labor officials.

That complaint alleged that Brown had some workers working as many as 60 hours a week but submitted time sheets signed blank by workers, and then filled in by supervisors for far fewer hours.

That allowed Brown's company to avoid paying time and a half rates as required by law.
