City of Albany Being Sued Over First Street Confrontation

Two of the men involved in a violent confrontation with Albany police earlier this year are suing the city.

Armando Sanchez and Mario Gorostiza say police used excessive force against them, and they were arrested unlawfully.

Albany police called to First Street in mid-March to break up reports of a loud party. When they arrived, police body camera footage showed they broke down a door, and several men, including Sanchez and Gorostiza, were hit repeatedly with batons.

One of the officers involved, Luke Deer, was charged with assault, two others suspended.

The D.A'S office dropped charges the civilians were facing.
