Opening statements and first witnesses called on Wednesday, in the murder trial of Daniel Nellis Sr.
He's accused of killing Micheala MacVilla of St. Johnsville last fall.
MacVilla was last seen leaving the Stewart's Shop in St Johnsville where she worked. Her body was found a week later with a single bullet wound to her head.
Among those in the courtroom were Nellis' son Jacob, who told reporters outside the courtroom that he's there for Michaela's family and not for his father.
Her aunt, Cora Murray, says the family wants to see justice served.
Fulton County DA Chad Brown told jurors they will see physical and electronic evidence that will directly tie Nellis and Mac Villa together on the day that she went missing.
Nellis' attorney, Brian Toal said the prosecution's evidence doesn't add up, and his client Nellis is an ex-con who police have targeted because of his past.
Nellis could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
