The Aurora Games opens Tuesday night at the Times Union Center.
The all-women sports festival, the first of its kind, will feature more than 100 athletes in six sports.
Creator Jerry Solomon says the idea for this America-vs-the-world competition began to form in his head as he was watching the Olympic Games several years ago.
Solomon says one of the big challenges in putting this event together had to do with the athletes' schedules, and the events they're already involved in.
He adds having the endorsement of legendary athletes like Nadia Comeneci, Nancy Kerrigan, and others, have helped bring the event credibility.
A kickoff rally was held at the TU Center Monday night.
The games begin Tuesday night with opening ceremonies, followed by tennis competition, featuring six players all ranked among the world's 50 best.
