Advocates for retirees at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady are going to court in an effort to recoup lost pensions. About 1,100 former employees of the hospital, which closed some years ago, were told last year that their pensions would either be cut back drastically or eliminated altogether.
Attorney David Pratt says, "we expect the defendants to be represented vigorously so it's going to be a battle, but we do believe very strongly that we have the rights on our side. They were made promises over and over and over again, they were lied to over and over and over again.
The suit names the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany, Bishop Edward Scharfenberger, and former Bishop Howard Hubbard as defendants.
