The vaping crisis has now claimed its first life in New York State, a 17-year-old male from the Bronx.

So far, more than 1,100 people have gotten sick, and 19 have now died.

According to a new study from New York University, exposure to nicotine from e-cigarette vapor can cause lung and potentially bladder cancer in mice.

The scientists concluded it is likely "very harmful" to people as well.

The state has moved to ban flavored e-cigarettes, but that order has been put on hold by an appeals court after objections from the vaping industry.

Hearing is set for next week.
