A Vermont couple will be in court Friday after police say their dog was left to die after being shot.

Police in Sandgate, west of Manchester, say they tried to save the dog, but were unable to do so.

Joyce Cornell is facing several charges, including animal cruelty.

Police say her husband, Scott, is also facing charges.

Officers say they found 20 illegally-owned guns inside the house.

Police say Cornell is a felon and not allowed to have guns.
