Water Contamination in New Paltz Blamed on Underground Fuel Line Leak

It appears a leak in an underground fuel line is the cause for water problems in New Paltz.

Thousands of students were ordered off campus at SUNY New Paltz, as classes have been cancelled for the next couple of days as a result of the problem.

The troubled fuel line is part of the village's water treatment plant's heating system for one of the reservoirs.

Health officials are trying to come up with a plan to flush the water before lifting a ban on drinking the tap water.

Gov. Cuomo ordered about 40,000 gallons of bottled water to be brought in this week.
