The New York Racing Association announces that the Belmont Stakes will be run on Saturday June 20 but not at its usual distance of a mile and a half.

NYRA says the race will be run at a mile and an eighth this year.

No fans will be allowed inside Belmont Park for the race because of coronavirus.

The Belmont Stakes is typically the last leg of the Triple Crown, but this is the first time in history the race will be the first.

The Kentucky Derby is scheduled for the first Saturday in September and the Preakness is set for October 3rd.

Live racing will resume at Belmont Park on Wednesday June 3rd.

Racing then shifts to Saratoga on Thursday, July 16.
