The way mental health calls are handled will be undergoing a significant change in Albany County.

Under a new program, social workers and Sheriff's EMS workers are now going to be at those scenes. Officials believe their presence will help de-escalate any potentially dangerous situations and keep people safe. The program is based off of one that was created in Oregon and will likely be expanded if successful.
