State lawmakers could vote Friday on a measure that would strip Governor Cuomo of his COVID-19 emergency powers.

In the early days of the pandemic, the governor was granted the authority to make important health and safety decisions without getting approval from the legislature. Since then, he's put several orders in place including a mask mandate and has also played large role in deciding what businesses should be open. Lawmakers could have put a stop to his powers at any time with a majority vote, but never did.
