Part of the appeal of the annual Freihofer's Run for Women has always been that women at various ages and fitness levels can come together with a goal of reaching for their personal best while running a 5K. For decades the event has attracted world-class athletes and novices. That spirit of camaraderie has been extended to help women prepare for the event in the weeks preceding it. In this episode of Upstate Issues, Diane Donato talks with Event Director Kristen Hislop about the Freihofer's Training Challenge. It's an 11-week program beginning the week of Sunday, July 11 at 17 sites in Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Dutchess Counties. The training is tailored for all abilities, even beginners. Hislop also talks about the physical, mental and social benefits of group training and running.
