Governor Cuomo is declaring gun violence a "disaster emergency" in New York, by way of executive order.

On Tuesday, the governor unveiled a multi-point plan which includes increasing the presence of law enforcement in areas where the number of shootings are high and forming a council on gun violence prevention. A State Police task force will also try and keep illegal guns from entering the state at its borders. Republican State Senate Minority Leader Robert Ortt criticized the governor's announcement, saying that gun violence victims deserve real solutions and not political grandstanding.
