Western wildfires are creating hazy skies as far away as New York.

Dozens of wildfires are burning across the West, where extreme heat and months of drought have been making it hard to contain the blazes. The fires have created a blanket of thick smoke over much of the West, and the smoke has drifted across the U.S. and settled on parts of the East Coast. Forecasters predict the haze will start lifting Wednesday as a cold front moves into the Northeast from Canada.
