Governor Andrew Cuomo says the since-ended Department of Justice investigation into nursing home deaths was purely political.

His comments come after the Department of Justice announced it will not open a civil investigation into how several states handled coronavirus in nursing homes. Cuomo claims the Trump DOJ was aiming to score political points and assign blame for the pandemic by investigating New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and New Jersey. He also says data indicates New York's number of nursing home deaths is ranked 31st in the country, as opposed to near the top. Republicans say the DOJ's decision not to pursue the investigation is shameful and shows a willingness to cover up bad decisions made by Democratic governors.
