Governor Kathy Hochul is encouraged by New York's COVID vaccination rates, but wants more young people to get shots.

Hochul noted that 82% of New Yorkers 18-and-up have gotten at least one vaccine dose, and 73% of Empire State residents have completed the series. To illustrate the efficacy of the vaccines, she pointed out that unvaccinated people are ten-times more likely to be hospitalized and eleven times more likely to die. Meantime, the state's current positivity rate has been keeping steady for the past few days at a little over 3%, with officials closely watching the Finger Lakes, Western New York, Long Island, the Capitol Region and particularly the North Country, which currently has a 5.6% positivity rate.
