New York State Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs is apologizing to Buffalo mayoral candidate India Walton.

On Monday, Jacobs was criticized for his response to being asked why he hasn't endorsed Walton in her race against incumbent Mayor Byron Brown, even though she won the Democratic primary. Jacobs said he doesn't believe his support of Walton is mandatory, then raised a hypothetical situation where KKK member David Duke moved to New York and won a primary. Jacobs said he wouldn't endorse Duke if that happened before also saying Walton wasn't in the same category as Duke. In a statement, Jacobs said he never intended to offend Walton and is looking forward to meeting with her after Election Day.
