A Troy police officer has filed a federal lawsuit against a gun manufacturer after he was injured in an accidental shooting.

Officer Michael Colwell says he was taking part in a training exercise back in June when his holstered weapon went off without him pulling the trigger. A bullet hit him in the thigh and Colwell's attorney says that the full extent of the damage done to his client's leg is unknown. Colwell has been on medical leave since the incident. So far, SIG Sauer hasn't commented on the lawsuit.
