Starting Thursday, New Yorkers will no longer be required to have a mask on inside of most places.

Governor Hochul said Wednesday that a statewide mask mandate issued in December to slow the spread of COVID-19 is being allowed to expire. However, facial coverings are still required in locations such as state-regulated health care settings, state-regulated adult care facilities and nursing homes, homeless shelters and mass transit stations. Masks must also continue to be worn by students and teachers in schools. Governor Hochul says a decision on lifting the school masking policy likely won't be made until after the upcoming February break.
