The mayors of three Capital Region cities have met with state officials to discuss ways to put an end to gun violence in their communities.

On Monday, Mayor Kathy Sheehan of Albany, Mayor Gary McCarthy of Schenectady and Mayor Patrick Madden of Troy spoke with members of the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. As part of the new state budget, money is going to be spent on initiatives that strengthen the gun violence prevention efforts of both police and community groups. Since the start of the year, thousands of guns have already been taken off the streets.
