Long Island Congressman Lee Zeldin has officially conceded to Kathy Hochul in the race for New York governor.

Hochul declared victory after the polls closed, but Zeldin initially refused to concede, saying there were votes that still needed to be counted. He released a statement Wednesday congratulating the governor on her win and thanked his supporters for making such a close race possible. Hochul has been governor since the resignation of ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo last year and will begin her full four-year term in January.
