PA Woman Charged in Sledgehammer, Knife Attack in Ellenville

A Pennsylvania woman, Sara Levine, 28, faces multiple charges after allegedly attacking her stepbrother with a knife and sledgehammer in Ellenville on Tuesday (October 28). According to the Ellenville Police Department, officers responded to a serious assault on Westwood Avenue around 4:42 a.m. and found the victim covered in blood.

Investigators revealed that Levine drove from her home in Lakeville, Pennsylvania, to her parents' house in Ellenville. Upon arrival, she reportedly punctured the tires of her stepbrother's truck and used a weapon to make deep cuts in the vehicle's paint. Armed with a knife and sledgehammer, she entered the house searching for her 61-year-old stepbrother. When he emerged from his room to investigate the noise, Levine allegedly stabbed him in the upper shoulder and neck area and struck him with the sledgehammer.

The victim was taken to Ellenville Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Levine was charged with felony first-degree burglary, felony second-degree assault, felony third-degree criminal mischief, and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. She was arraigned in Ulster County CAP Court on Tuesday afternoon.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the attack. The Ellenville Police Department was assisted by the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office and the Ulster County Sheriff’s Department in processing the scene.
