President Donald Trump's approval rating rapidly declined after the beginning of the Iran War, but has remained the same recently, according to polling expert Eli McKown-Dawson wrote in the latest edition of Nate Silver's Silver Bulletin blog published on Friday (March 17).
"Donald Trump’s approval rating declined after the Iran War began, but it’s been holding relatively steady over the past week," McKown-Dawson wrote. "His net approval in the Silver Bulletin average was -16.3 when two-week ceasefire was announced on April 7. Today, it's essentially unchanged at -16.6. Still, recent polls show that the war itself remains unpopular.
"With gas prices still high, Trump's net approval rating on the economy is sitting at -22, while his inflation approval is -34. Those are both near second-term lows."
A new Yale's Youth Poll showed that younger voters are leaning toward shunning Trump in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. Large majorities of voters between the ages of 18 to 22 (68%), 23 to 29 (72%) and 30 to 34 (75%) said they disapproved Trump's job performance during his second of two non-consecutive terms in office.
The president was also reported to have a 57% disapproval rating among all overs age 18 and up, according to the survey, which sampled 3,429 registered voters, including 2,008 between the ages of 18 to 34 and had a +1.4% margin of error for the full sample and a +2.0% margin of error for the youth sample.
