Breaking news: Barry Manilow is gay. If you didn’t already know that, I have a bridge to sell you.
Seriously, I love Barry Manilow. We used to come back from after hours at local bars and blast “Weekend in New England” at full volume in our dorm room at Siena (apologies to anyone in Plassman Hall in 1993). I had always assumed he was singing about someone he loved, but never even thought about it was a man or a woman. I just assumed he was gay (singing about showgirls? That wasn’t a clue?) and it didn’t even faze me. So here we are, 25 years later and this is news? It’s a little sad that he felt the need to wait 40 years to be honest about himself and his relationships, but I really don’t think any Manilow fans are surprised, and certainly not disappointed in his revelation. I would actually be more surprised if he revealed that he had been secretly married to a WOMAN for all these years!
Ok, Kendall Jenner and Pepsi. The Outrage Brigade is furious over a commercial in which she solves the world’s problems with a can of Pepsi. From a purely visual perspective, it’s a beautiful spot. Well shot, well edited.. but the concept is poorly thought out. You can see it here.
It shows people of different ethnicities and colors, marching through the streets to what appears to be a protest against police. Jenner hands an officer a Pepsi, the crowd erupts in cheers, and we now have world peace. Some feel it trivializes legitimate issues of hate, racism and police brutality. I get that. In some communities those issues are very real and very raw and there’s no simple answer to solving those problems. Pepsi has apologized for its fail, and people can all pipe down now.
The whole idea of a Kardashian changing the world is laughable. We know that entire scenario would never happen…. I mean, Kendall Jenner would never touch a Pepsi that isn’t DIET!!
