Normally, President Trump doubles down in these situations, never backing-off when confronted with criticism. This time though, he quickly realized it was a losing situation and reversed himself on the policy of separating kids from their families at the border. It had to be done for humanitarian... and political... reasons.
While this human and political crisis has apparently been averted (a lot of specifics still need to be worked out) a huge problem remains. Security at the border. The U.S. needs to secure the border and come up with a comprehensive immigration strategy that deals with the millions already here and the tens of thousands trying to sneak in.
Sadly, don't hold your breath for a solution. The Democrats SAY they want to solve the problem but the truth is, the last thing they want to do before the mid-term elections is help Trump solve the immigration crisis. In fact, I'd wager that they secretly are disappointed Trump so quickly reversed course on the kids. The Dems certainly had hoped to exploit the issue of the kids for at least a few more days. Do the Dems truly care about the childrens' well-being? Yes. Do they know it's a winning political issue for them? Yes. In fact, I got an email from the "Cuomo 2018" campaign yesterday asking me to sign a petition calling for Trump to end the separation policy. When I clicked on the link to look at the petition it immediately took me to a big, red, DONATE button, asking me to give Cuomo cash. Gross.
