Simple, Inexpensive Ways to Update Your Home

In the age of HGTV, everyone thinks that they can DYI just about anything when it comes to home remodeling. At any given time, Americans have 9 unfinished projects around their home. The biggest culprit... painting. 55% of Americans have not completed their painting projects.

It's not all bad news though. On average, we complete 4 projects a year.

If you're looking for low cost updates that you can do around the house that are easy to complete, keep reading.

Update Your Entry

Throw a fresh coat of paint on your door and trim. Or, replace your door entirely. Also, changing out your old house number for new ones and updating your lighting are easy changes and improve curb appeal.

Build a Headboard

Have a few wood pallets laying around? These can be re-purposed into a headboard. Window shutters, old doors and fencing are cool options too. Or update an old headboard with decoupage and family photos.

Install a New Backsplash

Adding something even simple and expensive can freshen up your kitchen.  Tin ceiling tiles, wallpaper, and flooring tiles are great options.

Update Faucets

Changing faucets will give sinks in both your bathroom and kitchen an updated look without the cost of replacing the whole unit.

Update Cabinet Hardware

Replacing kitchen cabinets can be extremely costly and time consuming. To update your kitchen on a budget, replace current cabinet hardware with new ones. Try to find news ones that are the same size as the old ones so that you won't need to re-drill holes.

Paint Kitchen Cabinets

While this is definitely more time consuming than just replacing the cabinet fixtures, it can add a whole new look to your kitchen and possibly even add value to your home.

Add Crown Molding

Adding crown molding or changing baseboards can improve the look of any room. You can even have the pieces pre-cut if you measure what you need.

Replace Light Fixtures

Replacing old light fixtures with new ones will brighten up a room. Or you could change the look of current fixtures with a coat of spray paint to update them with little cost.

Paint or Wallpaper a Wall

Self-adhesive, removable wallpaper gives a fresh new look to your room without worrying about how to remove it later. Or just paint an accent wall for a new look.

Replace Interior Doors

Go from drab to fab with new interior doors. Interiors are often overlooked, but can be a good choice for changing the look of a room or adding a little personality.

Update Your Fireplace

Swap out an old out of style mantle for a new one. You can make one or put in a pre-made one. Make it stand out with a paint job. Fireplaces can be updated with paint too.
