How To Survive A Plane Crash

The odds of dying in a plane crash are about 1-in-11 million. 40% of airline crash deaths happen in crashes that were "survivable". So while it's pretty unlikely, it's never a bad idea to prep yourself.

Time Matters - You've got about 90 seconds to get out of the plane.

Fitness - Young, slender men have the best odds of survival.

Big Plane - The bigger planes can absorb more impact than smaller ones.

5 Row Rule - You are at greater odds of survival within 5 rows of the exit.

Normalcy Bias - Think and act quickly. This is not a "normal" situation.

The Safety Card - Read it. It's there for a reason.

Plus 3/Minus 8 - 80% of plane incidents happen 3 minutes after takeoff or 8 minutes before landing.

Oxygen Mask - Get it on immediately.

Brace Positions - They work.

Carry On Baggage - Forget it.
