Shen Teacher Suspended Over Rant, Not Sexuality

A Shenendehowa teacher has filed a notice of claim in an effort to reserve the right to sue the district after she claims they discriminated against her for being gay. She's seeking around $2 million. She has been with the district for 17 years and has an unblemished record. However, new information has been made public by the district stating that her claims are untrue and that her sexuality has nothing to do with her suspension and upcoming disciplinary hearing.

Additionally, after she filed the notice, students that had her as a teacher released audio of a rant she went on about a former student. There was an article in the high school newspaper that initiated the rant. The article was called "Five Books English Teachers Force You To Read" and it was a satirical take on works of literature included in the school's curriculum.

The teacher, Tammy Crump, spoke for 13 minutes on the article. Allegedly, Crump can be heard in the recording calling the article an example of "anti-intellectualism, complete narcissism, and basically idiocy."
