Rotterdam Church Takes Family Photos in the Spirit of Giving

Messiah Lutheran Church in Rotterdam, with financial support from Thrivent Financial, once again brought an international movement called Help-Portrait to Schenectady over the weekend.

Each 1st Saturday of December, Help-Portrait brings photographers, make-up artists, hair stylists and volunteers together around the world to provide folks in their local communities with quality portraits completely free of charge. Over 50 volunteers assisted Messiah for this year's event including local photographer Laura Pinckney.

Help Portrait's premise is simple.

1. Find someone in need

2. Take their portrait

3. Print their portrait

4. Deliver their portrait

Since it's conception, Help Portrait has given over 400,000 portraits in sixty-seven countries.

In its second year, the organizers of Help-Portrait Schenectady provided over 150 households with quality portraits along with other community building activities like snacks with Santa, cookie decorating, arts and crafts, Christmas story reading and more.

Rev. Dustin of Messiah Lutheran Church stated, “At the core of our faith community’s mission is to affirm the inherent dignity of every human being. What could be better way of doing just that this Christmas?”
