Happy Hour: Amsterdam Students Surprised with Notes of Positivity

Kids returned to school Monday from their winter break and at Amsterdam High School they had some extra encouragement waiting as they arrived: 1200 special messages... on posted notes... stuck to individual lockers. They were from faculty members, with each inspirational quote written anonymously. The hope is that students will stick those notes inside their lockers and look to them on days when they're having a rough time. Among the messages: ""If you can't run... walk. If you can't walk, crawl. But whatever you do, keep moving forward."

It was a tremendous and well-earned honor for a local man who has gone above and beyond helping people in the community. Joe Alleca was honored this weekend by state and local officials for serving 50 years as a volunteer firefighter for the West Sand Lake Fire Company. He joined the department in 1970 after serving in the army.

Alleca has had many roles within the department, including fire company trustee and treasurer.
