A high school senior in Oklahoma has Cerebral Palsy and he's been confined to a wheelchair his entire life. He just shocked the heck out of his classmates at graduation when he walked across the stage to receive his diploma.
He has spent almost a year working with physical therapists to build the muscles in his legs. First, learning to stand... eventually mastering the 150 foot walk across the stage. He kept it a secret from everyone and almost didn't even get to have a big reveal because of coronavirus. But, at the last minute, the governor allowed graduations and he pulled it off. The crowd went crazy as people wiped away the tears.
A couple of teenagers in Maryland have been shopping for their grandparents for the last few months so they don't have to go out. Then, they added some elderly neighbors to the list. Over the last two months, they have turned it into a nationwide movement, with chapters in 14 states.
It's called "Teens Helping Seniors". They take orders via email. Then, they shop and deliver the groceries, following all safety and sanitation procedures, and they leave the bags on the porch so there is a no contact delivery. They take cash, checks or venmo. They hope to continue offering their services for as long as they are needed.
WGY is partnering with News 10 and SEFCU to launch the “No Neighbor Hungry” campaign.
It’s an effort to help people here in the Capital Region by raising as much money as possible in June for seven local non-profit organizations that are going above and beyond.
